Responsibility without Consequences

Responsibility without Consequences is NOT responsibility! The main problem with Cheney's claim to accept responsibility for shooting his "acquaintance" in the face is that he had already effectively eliminated all consequences for his actions. By stalling the local police and avoiding the investigation, he avoided what anyone else who had a hunting accident must go through. If you or I had shot someone, even if it was a total accident, we would have been questioned, investigated, and probably in need of a lawyer. We would not have been able to arrive back at the ranch for cocktails. I'm certainly glad that he said it was his fault and not Mr. Whitingtons, however it is not difficult to say "I accept responsibility" for something when you know that nothing going to happen to you. We like to believe that "no one is above the law" in America, but this incident totally proves the fallacy of that statement. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Chertoff and Delay are all examples of how this does not apply to our current situation. If the American people do nothing, our leaders will do what they want.
